We had a fantastic whole-school Maths Day as part of our Maths Week celebrations! We began the morning with a special assembly where we explored why maths is such an important part of our everyday lives. We also reflected on influential historical figures who used maths in their work, including Florence Nightingale, who became a pioneering statistician through her use of data to improve healthcare.
Throughout the day, every year group took part in exciting mathematical activities. Reception were busy engaging with a variety of Ten Town challenges, developing their early number skills through fun, hands-on tasks. Year 1 worked with the White Rose One Minute Maths app to strengthen their subitising and number-bond fluency.
The excitement really built in Year 2 as the maths battles began!
Topaz vs Sapphire was our first contest of the day. Both classes worked incredibly hard, with Sapphire ultimately taking the win.
The second match—Amethyst vs Tanzanite—ended in a draw, leading to a tense afternoon showdown between five representatives from each class. After a brilliant effort from all involved, Tanzanite emerged victorious.
Our final battle—Pearl vs Diamond—was packed with enthusiasm and determination. In a very close finish, Pearl just edged ahead to secure the last win of the day.
It was wonderful to see so much excitement, teamwork, and enjoyment across the school. A huge thank you to all children and parents for the fantastic effort put into costumes and for the generous donations. Your support helped make our Maths Day truly memorable!
