In Reception, we teach early reading using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme, which is a structured and systematic approach to phonics. This helps children learn to recognise letters (graphemes) and the sounds they represent (phonemes), and to blend these sounds together to read words, as well as segment words for spelling.
Daily phonics lessons are engaging, interactive, and carefully planned to build confidence and fluency. Children will also bring home reading books that match the sounds they have been taught, so they can practise and experience success at home. We encourage parents to support their child by reading regularly together and reinforcing the sounds and words we are learning in class.
