The MFL Leader is Mrs Hallett

At Pirehill, we aim to inspire a lifelong love for language learning. In KS2, children begin learning French which provides them with firm foundations to continue learning this language at the middle school, Walton Priory.  We believe that by studying a modern foreign language, our children develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between their own culture and those of others, fostering empathy and respect. Introducing children to foreign languages at a young age inspires and encourages an interest and helps to develop a strong foundation in language learning, which they take with them as they move to middle school. Learning French offers exciting opportunities in education, business, and more. Whether children want to study abroad, work internationally, or connect with people from different backgrounds, being able to communicate in another language gives them confidence and competence to navigate today's world.

French is taught on a weekly basis. The interactive programme Language Angels is used to allow the children to listen, speak, practise and repeat. Children will progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary, language skills and grammatical knowledge organised around age appropriate topics and themes including: greetings, numbers, months, days, colours, personal identification, animals and transport.
